IQ Fire Solutions and QDOS collaborate to deliver Fire Alarm Zone Plans and As-Fitted Drawings for one of the Worlds most Prestigious Colleges. Preserving safety in such a setting is no small task. The college’s sprawling layout, diverse building types from centuries-old halls to modern facilities, and constant activity present unique challenges for fire safety and emergency response. Protecting both people and priceless heritage requires solutions that are not only highly reliable but also sensitive to the architectural integrity of the site.

The Challenge

The College needed a complete overhaul of its fire alarm system to meet modern safety standards and compliance requirements. The project wasn’t just about installing new hardware; it demanded full documentation including as-fitted drawings and fire alarm zone plans to ensure compliance.

However, the college faced a significant obstacle: there were no existing digital building plans for its historic and complex site. This meant IQ Fire Solutions had to start from scratch, surveying and mapping the entire campus from old paper plans before any installation work could begin.

With no existing digital plans available, QDOS meticulously transformed survey data into comprehensive building layouts, ensuring every detail was captured for future reference. These plans covering 19 buildings became the foundation for producing precise fire alarm zone plans and as-fitted drawings.

On site, Ollie Jones, Senior Engineer of IQ Fire Solutions played a crucial role in designing and developing draft zone charts on-site. Working alongside Josh Kelly, Senior CAD Operator at QDOS, they were able to liaise and work through the finer details of the project.
